The Essential Performer
A workshop for all performers beyond their art
The art of being a performer: all that lies within is not the performance! There are many aspects of being a professional artist that are not taught to the student…you already assume you need a well-trained voice, a knowledge of repertoire, but what about the other elements that are involved? Why is it that a fabulous audition doesn’t land you the role of your dreams? What can you do to sway an audition over the top, to grab their attention, to be your best? How do you overcome your own ‘diva-ness’ and take your career to the next level?
First and foremost, you need talent, a great sense of humor, and perseverance …. but beyond that? These and more are the questions to be answered in the Essential Performer’s Workshop. Diva Janet Hopkins have been a principal soloist at the New York Metropolitan Opera for over 16 years. She has traveled and toured with numerous opera companies, sung at Carnegie Hall, received awards and grants, and taught professionally for over 20 years.
Miss Hopkins has learned many aspects of the professional world that were never taught to her in school, all of which she wishes had been! Miss Hopkins offers the option of a 1 or 2 day workshop for students which covers all aspects of the performing arts: drama, opera, and musical theatre. Students will have the opportunity of performing a mock audition in which all aspects of the process are addressed: resume, bio, attire, making the best impression on others from the moment the subject walks into the room.
Within the “audition”, the topics listed below will be covered, along with a lecture and a question/answer session at the end. Private lessons/coaching may be set up individually after the workshop at an additional fee per student. The fee for a 1 day workshop is $1500.00, 2 day $2500.00 (approx. 5 hrs. each day) plus expenses, to be paid half up front and remaining half upon completion of workshop. Universities can assess students a workshop fee which can actually make the program self- supporting. Students doing a musical selection should provide their own accompanist.
A solo recital performance can be included, if desired, for an additional $1500.00. Recitals include a broad range of musical selections, from Broadway to opera with a fun, informative dialogue and exchange.
Workshop enrollment is limited to a maximum of 100 auditors with up to 10 performers (musical theatre, monologue, or aria) per day.
Topics included in the Performer’s Workshop:
